Here at Papercup, we’re making the world’s videos watchable in any language using AI-powered text-to-speech technology. It’s imperative that an ambitious mission like ours is grounded in tangible ethical principles that are updated at the same pace as our rapidly evolving field. And this is something the team at Papercup is serious about.
We believe that each AI company is responsible for ensuring that AI is used for good and has a responsibility to regulate its use.
We’re committed to ensuring AI dubbing is a force for good; to maximizing the advantages of the technology, and anticipating and minimizing any potential downsides.
And so, here are the ethical rules we’re determined to uphold:
- We’ll never reproduce a voice likeness unless we have explicit consent to do so
- We’ll never use voice likeness beyond the agreed scope without obtaining permission to do so
- We’ll never use voices for illegal or immoral purposes — like bullying or harassment, inciting hatred or spreading misinformation
- We won’t give ‘open access’ to our voices to the public until we’re confident we can control, and be transparent about, how they’re used
- We’re committed to paying voice actors fairly while ensuring we can also sustain our business
